A college degree puts you ahead in life when it comes to getting a good job but it also depends on what you studied in college. Being a demanding job, you need to meet certain requirements before you are admitted to study this course. Some of the requirements cannot be met in a week or month which means preparations need to start in good time. You cannot jump any steps and you still have to go through high school. Your transcripts should have a record of a 4-year course in mathematics( geometry, algebra, calculus and trigonometry). Even with the right subjects, you should be able to demonstrate great performance in all of them because without that you will be at a disadvantage.
It is not just the scores of the final year in high school that will be considered but also the previous years which is why you should start working on your grades from the freshman year. Study for your ACT and SAT because it is these scores the colleges will get when it comes to choosing whether to admit you or not and the course you can take. You can gain admission to engineering school with a 3. It is not just about academics though which is why you need to find some more things to do to impress colleges. You will be creating new things and solving problems on your own once you become an engineer which means you should let the universities see your creative side and a character of a person who is curious to learn more.
You should have extracurricular activities participation records too because no college wants students who are just going through life without exploring. Also, make sure you relate well with your mentors and teachers because you will need recommendation letters from them in order to get into colleges. It will not be about reading books and passing tests in college but also working on research projects so that new ways of solving real life problems can be found. You do not need a high-end engineering lab to come up with fresh ideas and from your science and math lessons you should be able to come up with such projects.
